Yard Operation Supervisor

We’re working with leading waste management company with a focus on sustainability and efficiency who offer services tailored to both residential and commercial customers. Due to continued growth, they’re looking for a Yard Operations Supervisor to join the team. This role requires active on-site supervision, coordination of work schedules, and collaboration with internal and external teams to maintain optimal operational flow

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement best practices to enhance production efficiency and optimise material recovery in the C&D processing plant and other facilities as required.
  • Maintain a constant supervisory presence on-site, including in processing areas and the yard.
  • Plan and manage work schedules for yard staff, including machine operators, ensuring operational requirements and leave arrangements are balanced. Provide short-term cover when needed and arrange additional staffing for holidays or sickness absences.
  • Ensure all team members receive comprehensive training and complete their tasks in line with Health & Safety standards. Work closely with the Health & Safety department to keep training records accurate and compliant with regulations.
  • Supervise the handling, segregation, and delivery of waste materials to appropriate destinations efficiently and effectively. Report and quarantine any non-compliant waste in accordance with company procedures.
  • Liaise with internal and external hauliers to manage and maintain appropriate on-site stock levels.
  • Oversee the implementation and regular updates of the maintenance programme for all on-site production and mobile plant equipment.
  • Ensure pre-use equipment inspections are carried out before each shift, that any defects are promptly reported, and corrective actions are taken without delay.
  • Provide accurate and timely input for weekly KPI reports, ensuring all data reflects site performance comprehensively

What They’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in line management or supervisory roles, with responsibility for team oversight.
  • Experience in a waste management facility is preferred but not essential.
  • Licenses and experience in operating mobile plant equipment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate staff.
