We’re working with leading waste management company with a focus on sustainability and efficiency who offer services tailored to both residential and commercial customers. We are looking for a skilled HGV Mechanic to join our client’s Dublin team. The position involves maintaining, servicing, and repairing a variety of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), including refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), hook loaders, chain skip loaders, as well as articulated and rigid curtain-siders.
You should have an in-depth understanding of engines, cabs, chassis, RCV bodies, lifting equipment, and weighing systems. However, candidates with general HGV experience who are eager to develop specific expertise in RCVs and related equipment are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on HGVs, focusing on engines, brakes, suspension systems, hydraulics, electrical components, and specialised equipment such as packing and lifting systems.
- Diagnose faults using advanced tools and resolve issues in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Prepare vehicles for CVRT inspections, LOLER tests, and routine 13-week checks, ensuring all standards are met.
- Troubleshoot complex problems to maintain vehicles in optimal working condition.
- Replace worn or damaged components, including tyres, brake systems, and steering mechanisms.
- Perform routine checks to ensure vehicles comply with all safety and legal standards.
- Accurately document all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used in compliance with company and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with workshop staff and external contractors to manage priorities and minimise vehicle downtime.
- Respond to roadside breakdowns when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience as an HGV mechanic or in a similar role, with expertise in heavy-duty vehicle systems.
- Recognised mechanical qualifications (e.g., QQI or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of HGV engines, systems, and diagnostic procedures.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and maintenance equipment.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards in workshop settings.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A full driving licence (HGV licence preferred but not essential).
